Honoring and recognizing Bruce R. Hawkins Funeral Home for its remarkable contributions to the community and its commitment to excellence over the past 40 years.
 
Body
WHEREAS, The Bruce R. Hawkins Funeral Home, located at 6828 Old York Road in Philadelphia, proudly celebrates its 40th anniversary on July 1, 2023, marking four decades of dedicated service to the community; and
 
WHEREAS, Bruce R. Hawkins began his journey in the funeral industry with his uncle James Hawkins in South Philadelphia and later with his cousin Julian in West Philadelphia. With a vision to establish his own business and with the support of his family, he founded the Bruce R. Hawkins Funeral Home on July 1, 1983; and
 
WHEREAS, Over the past 42 years, Mr. Hawkins has delivered outstanding and compassionate funeral services to hundreds of families across Philadelphia and surrounding areas. The business has flourished into a second-generation African American owned enterprise, now led by his daughter Melanie Hawkins Tudos; and
 
WHEREAS, Melanie Hawkins Tudos, a graduate of Spelman College and Drexel University’s MBA program, continues the family legacy with dedication and pride. She has furthered her expertise with an Associates’ degree in Funeral Service from Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service in Georgia, becoming the tenth funeral director in her family. Melanie actively engages with the community, advocating for the importance of pre-planning; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Hawkins attributes the success of the Bruce R. Hawkins Funeral Home to his exceptional staff, supportive family, and steadfast faith. He looks forward to continuing the tradition of providing “Professional Service When Service Is Needed Most” and is enthusiastic about the future of the business; now, therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby extends its heartfelt congratulations to Bruce R. Hawkins, Melanie Hawkins Tudos, and the entire staff of the Bruce R. Hawkins Funeral Home. We recognize their remarkable contributions to the community and their commitment to excellence over the past 40 years. We celebrate this significant milestone and wish them continued success and prosperity in their enduring legacy.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Bruce R. Hawkins, Melanie Hawkins Tudos, and the entire staff of the Bruce R. Hawkins Funeral Home as an expression of the admiration and respect of this legislative body.
